UNCCD International Photograph Competition
To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the convention, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) invited entries to its international photograph competition where candidates from schools, colleges and universities from all over the World were invited to submit digital images that best illustrated the problem of desertification and/or the measures taken to combat it, both from an artistic and conceptual point of view as part of an awareness raising campaign of the importance of issues at stake in the framework of the UNCCD.

The Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification launched an international photo contest in the preparation of the International Year of Deserts and Desertification (IYDD). The best three pictures that conceptually and artistically depicted the problem of land degradation and the measures to combat it, were selected and awarded in Bonn, Germany, at the third session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 3) which was held from 2nd to 11th of May 2005.
