We take for granted the air
we breathe, the food we eat, the species and landscapes we
love. Yet in many places these values are under threat.
Mankind
however, is unique. As a species we are part of nature. As
humans we are capable of reflection and learning. Human responsibility
starts where nature ceases to be self-evident.

Climate change is the greatest
environmental challenge we face as a global community. The
entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol is a milestone in multilateral
efforts to tackle climate change.
Further action is needed - we must prevent the global temperature
rising by more than 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels.
Action is affordable, inaction is not.
